Tremendous momentum in adoption of cloud: Nadella

NEW DELHI: Days after the visit of Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai to India, it was the turn of Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella to come calling as the India-born boss of one of the world’s biggest software companies emphasised the growing role of cloud in a digitally-savvy economy such as India. Interacting with business leaders in Mumbai during the Microsoft Future Ready Leadership Summit, Nadella said there is tremendous momentum in cloud adoption, as he termed cloud a “big game changer”. “Cloud has been a big game changer. . . cloud is in early-to-intermediate innings. . . ,” he said.
He said cloud will be “foundational” to scaling India’s digital journey and added how Microsoft is innovating across the tech stack to support the country’s ecosystem of developers, startups and companies. “One of the most fantastic things even in this trip into India that I’m learning about, is not just what’s happening in the top cities of the country, but what’s happening across all the cities in the country and how digital is playing a role. ”
Top cloud computing providers in India include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud and Microsoft’s Azure. Hyderabad-born Nadella also lauded the way in which India is building public infrastructure. He said, “. . . we see tremendous momentum today, when it comes to cloud adoption. In fact, when I think about Microsoft Windows, in the client server era, we sold a few servers in the cloud. It’s a completely different ballgame. ”
