NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated Shivamogga Airport in Karnataka. He is scheduled to hold a road show in Belagavi later in the day.
Additional Director General of Police Alok Kumar visited Channamma Circle to review the security preparations ahead of the roadshow.
“Tight security has been undertaken in the backdrop of the Prime Minister’s program. Police personnel has been deployed along the road show route. 6 Superintendent of Police (SPs), 11 Additional SPs, 28 DSPs, 60 inspectors, 22 KSRP squads, and a total of 3 thousand personnel deployed for security. It will be a 10.7 km road show,” said Alok Kumar.
“The airport in Shivamogga will significantly boost connectivity,” PM Modi said.

Water supply projects worth Rs 2,500 crore
PM Modi will also inaugurate water supply projects worth Rs 2,500 crore in Shivamogga and Belagavi.
Implemented under the Centre’s flagship ‘Jal Jeevan Mission, the water supply projects will benefit more than 13 lakh people of the two districts.
On February 6, PM Modi laid the foundation stones for two Jal Jeevan Mission projects at Tiptur and Chikkanayakanahalli in Karnataka’s Tumakuru. The Tiptur Multi-Village Drinking Water Supply Project has been implemented at a cost of over Rs 430 crore
The multi-village water supply scheme to 147 habitations of Chikkanayakanahlli taluk has been implemented at a cost of about Rs 115 crore. The projects will facilitate the provision of clean drinking water for the people of the region.
On January 19, PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Yadgiri multi-village drinking water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Kodekal in the Yadgiri district of Karnataka. A water treatment plant of 117 MLD was proposed to be built under the scheme. The project, which costs more than Rs 2050 crore, will provide potable water to about 2.3 lakh households of more than 700 rural habitations and three towns of the Yadgiri district.
The projects have been launched as part of PM Modi’s relentless focus on the provision of safe drinking water supply in all households of the country.
Rs 16,800 crore to over 8 crore farmers
The Prime Minister will also release the 13th instalment amount of over Rs 16,800 crore to over eight crore beneficiary farmers under the income support scheme PM-Kisan, in Belgavi.
Under the scheme, Rs 6,000 is annually released directly into each of the eligible landholder farmers’ bank accounts in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000. Over Rs 2.2 lakh crore was already disbursed to more than 11 crore landholder farmer families across the country since the launch of PM-Kisan in February 2019.
The 11th and 12th instalment of funds during the current financial year were released in in May and October last year. “The PM-Kisan scheme has already provided significant benefits to farmers across the country, and this latest instalment will further boost their incomes and contribute to the growth of the agriculture sector,” said the agriculture ministry in a statement on Sunday.
All landholding farmer families in the country are eligible under the scheme, subject to certain exclusion criteria. The scheme has also benefited over three crore women who have collectively received over Rs 53,600 crore in funds in the past four years.
The ministry claimed that the PM-Kisan’s funds have spurred rural economic growth, eased credit constraints for farmers and boosted agricultural investments. “It has also increased farmers’ risk-taking capacity, leading to more productive investments. According to IFPRI, PM-Kisan funds are helping recipients meet their agricultural needs and other expenses like education, medical care and marriage,” it said.
